Complex Wave Forms

Produced without camera input, this intense electronic landscape transports the viewer into a world that is an abstract study in machine-generated imagery. Produced at the Experimental Television Center.

“Complex Wave Forms is one in a series of short tapes which explored oscillators. In the series oscillators had multiple uses – to create images and sounds directly and to control voltages, which interfaced with additional image processing instrumentation. Signals were generated, mixed and controlled in amplitude and frequency by using a machine that was desinged and built by David Jones and Richard Brewster. The audio and visual were controlled by the same voltages, resulting in an interconnection between the two. The video output was fed into a Paik/Abe colorizer and recorded, along with the stereo audio signal in real time.”
